Many of us are unaware of the fact that brushing our teeth isn’t sufficient for proper oral care. We not only need a proper brush but also the proper brushing method to secure our teeth and gums. Now the question is, how to know we are doing a proper brushing of our teeth?
To know that you are brushing your teeth there is a simple test. Just run your tongue over the surface of your teeth. Now feel the smoothness. Your tongue should have a feel of running over the smooth glass. If the tongue feels some roughness or patchy area, then you haven’t done a good brushing. Pick up your brush and clean your teeth properly. You must know that improper brushing may lead to many dental and oral problems in the long run.
How to select a good brush for your teeth?
Before brushing your teeth you must pick a good quality bush. There are so many brands and too many sizes, designs, and colors available in the market. They may confuse you. Never go with a brand or an advertisement, but pick the brush that is best for your oral care. The first thing you must look at in a brush is the quality of plastic and bristles. Brushes with soft, smooth, and dense bristles are better. It must be noted that the medium and hard-bristled brushes can actually damage your gums, root surface, and protective tooth enamel.
Then look for the size. There are different sizes of brushes for different age groups. Check that your brush allows you easy access to all the surfaces of your teeth. Too big heads and too short handles may cause problems, so please take extra care.
What is the Proper Brushing method?
First priority while brushing should be convenience. Don’t brush too hard or too long, so that it may cause damage to gums and teeth enamel. Pick the brush and keep it at an approximately 45-degree angle to the gums. Now move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes. Do it gently and not in haste. Make sure that you are brushing the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth properly. Tilt the brush vertically if required and make several up-and-down strokes. It is the better way to clean the inner surfaces.
How many times one should brush his/her teeth?
There is no limit, as and when you feel a bad odor and bad teeth, you should brush them clean. It is recommendable to clean the teeth at least once a day.
